The brief for this cake was Disney Cinderella’s castle. The cake was for a huge disney fan so if I could include any of the characters anywhere it would be perfect.
The cake was two tiers both vanilla sponge filled with vanilla buttercream and strawberry jam. Both tiers were then covered with a fuchsia pink fondant icing with a brick press. The castle turrets are made from rice crisps and covered in fondant icing. The top of the turrets are ice cream cones covered in fondant icing and attached using royal icing.
I spent hours online looking at the Disney castles and how I could put this into a cake. I went with two tiers instead of three on this occasion. To give the effect of bricks I used a brick embossing tool which you can get from cake shops. for the top of each tier I used a small square cutter to get the castle top finish with small silver balls evenly spaced out. I used a small star plunger cutter to put tiny fondant stars around the turrets of the castle. The flags at the top of the castle were secured in place by wrapping them round cocktail sticks and placed into the ice cream cones. I finished the cake off by using mini Disney characters made from card and placing them on the different floors of the castle.
