As Halloween gets closer what better activity to do then head off to your nearest Pick your own Pumpkin Patch. I must admit I usually buy a pumpkin from a local supermarket as it’s just easy and convenient when picking up your shopping. However, after not getting my hands on a pumpkin last year because I left it too late and all that was left was that poor pumpkin that had seen better days I was determined to go and pick my own pumpkin this year.
On a grey but mild Saturday we grabbed our wellies and headed out to Bensons Farm where Foxes Farm Produce have a Pumpkin Patch. As we pulled onto the farm we could see a large field covered in orange pumpkins, there was no chance I was going to be leaving with just one pumpkin.
As we entered the pumpkin patch my little nephews were so excited to see all the pumpkins. We collected our wheelbarrow and off we went in the search of the perfect pumpkin. We were extremely surprised that Foxes Farm Produce had even injected some family fun into the search for your pumpkins from finding the golden pumpkin in the haystack, pumpkin photo opportunities, a corn maize where you could pick your own spooky corn and even pumpkin bowling.
After an hour of looking through pumpkins and some compromising with the nephews (they would have picked the whole field) we eventually picked our pumpkins. Obviously we picked more than one pumpkin how could we leave one of the spooky grey ones or a pumpkin that had bobbles on or even those baby ones we needed one of every variety. This was probably one of the most enjoyable things, it wasn’t like that large box at the supermarket where that one will do there was so many different varieties to choose from.
We had a fantastic time down at the pumpkin patch, it was such an enjoyable experience for all ages. We are now looking forward to carving our pumpkins for Halloween and returning next year.
